I produced a book which is in essence a reflection and dialogue between the past, present and future. It draws upon aspects I considered during my research and includes quotations and visual analogies, metaphors and personal reflections on the subject. It examines mankinds relationship with and concept of time, and how this affects our perceptions of existentiality.
This book examines the frequently prophetic and dystopian visions of the future portrayed in films and analyses how close they come to the reality of today. The year the films are set in may have already elapsed or be far in the future. Nevertheless, the ties with contemporary life are explored. In essence this is an overview of visions of the future, and how they often contain parallels with today’s world.
Using Processing (a programming language based on Java), I am producing visualisations of sound which will hopefully increase in complexity as my familiarity with Processing increases. Music has long held links with the visual arts. These experiments use code to generate and control images/video's in a way which reflects the inherent nature of the sound being played.
The aim of this brief was to map an alternative London that is not experienced by the average tourist. I became interested in how people travel and how this determines their experience of the city. I decided to record journeys between underground stations on foot, by underground and by bus. By recording journeys in both north, east, south, west and central London, I attempted to provide a visual cross section of the city, whilst simultaneously providing an indication of time and experiences of modes of transport.
